Complete fly fisher

wise river, montana

Set along the finest stretch of the legendary Big Hole River, the Complete Fly Fisher is a Montana legacy lodge where extraordinary fishing, refined comfort, and genuine Western hospitality have come together since 1968.

For nearly six decades, guests from around the world have journeyed to this remote corner of Montana to experience something increasingly rare—a place where the river runs wild, the mountains stretch beyond the horizon, and the pace of life slows to something more natural.

At the heart of the experience is a five-star culinary program, featuring exceptional cuisine, thoughtfully sourced ingredients, and memorable meals that turn every evening into an occasion. After a day on the water, gather around the table, raise a glass, and enjoy the kind of dining experience you would expect from a world-class destination.

Our world-class fly-fishing guides know the Big Hole Valley intimately. Their knowledge, experience, and passion for the river provide guests with access to some of North America’s finest trout fishing—whether you are pursuing a trophy fish or simply discovering the joy of a day spent on the water.

Back at the lodge, luxurious accommodations provide a welcoming retreat from the elements, blending understated elegance with the authentic character of the American West. Every detail is designed to make your stay comfortable, effortless, and memorable.

Above all, it is the SHRL standard at CFF that brings everything together. Warm, personal, and deeply rooted in the traditions of Montana, Their team takes pride in anticipating what you need before you ask and making every guest feel genuinely at home.

This is more than a place to fish. It is a place to reconnect—with the river, with the mountains, with good food and good company, and with a simpler way of life.

Focused on fly fishing. Stay for the experience. Leave with a piece of Montana that stays with you.

FLY FISHING PROGRAM

The Big Hole is their home water, the soul of the operation, the river they know best and is full of Rainbows & Browns. It’s where we spend the majority of their time, but Montana offers an extraordinary depth of opportunity when conditions call for a change of scenery.

Whether the Big Hole is running unusually high or low, or another river is experiencing an exceptional hatch and feeding frenzy, we have a select handful of premier waters at the ready.

The Beaverhead, Jefferson, and Bitterroot are not merely alternatives—they’re remarkable fisheries in their own right.

When rivers of this caliber are part of your backup plan, you know you’re in a special place.

December is prime time for dry-fly enthusiasts, with Caddis, Mayflies, Stoneflies, and Dragonflies taking center stage. Expect explosive surface action, unforgettable trout, and breathtaking Patagonian scenery at every turn. From the first cast to the last light of day, the waters surrounding Spring Creek Lodge deliver a truly exceptional dry-fly experience.

CULINARY PROGRAM

Dining is an integral part of the experience, and they get it!  They have thoughtfully designed every meal to be as memorable as the setting itself. Each morning, guests are welcomed with a chef’s special and an array of made-to-order breakfast favorites. For your adventures on the river, our culinary team prepares fresh, beautifully packed lunches in-house, ready to be enjoyed wherever the day takes you. In the evening, dinner becomes an occasion in its own right, showcasing the finest locally sourced ingredients alongside carefully selected flavors from around the world.

Breakfast and dinner are served in the distinctive River Room, where a generous communal table sits just feet from the Big Hole. More than a dining room, it is the social heart of the lodge—a place where exceptional cuisine, spirited conversation, and genuine Western hospitality come together. As glasses are raised and stories are shared, guests settle into the unhurried rhythm of life on the river, forging friendships and memories around the table.

ACCOMODATIONS

At The Complete Fly Fisher, a little bit of seclusion comes with a whole lot of comfort. Our cabins are nestled in the meadow, just steps from the fly shop, lodge, and the legendary Big Hole River—offering an easy escape into the landscape without sacrificing convenience.

Lodge Suites are perfect for guests who want to stay close to the river while enjoying the ease of a short hallway stroll to CFF’s top-shelf provisions, including coffee, food, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Each suite also offers access to a riverfront deck, providing a peaceful place to settle in, take in the view, and let the day slow down.
The Red Barn House was once home to the owners of The Complete Fly Fisher. Completely renovated while preserving its distinctive character, it now offers a uniquely comfortable sense of home during your stay. With plenty of space for gathering, the Red Barn House is also an excellent meeting place for large groups, family getaways, or corporate retreats.
And then there is the landscape itself.

The scale of the valley commands perspective. Flanked by the jagged peaks of the Pioneer Mountains to the east and the Anaconda Range to the west, the valley floor unfolds in a rolling tapestry of hay meadows and willow-lined riverbanks. Here, the light changes by the minute, the seasons reveal a constantly shifting palette, and “ordinary” views simply do not exist.
At The Complete Fly Fisher, the river is close, the mountains are always in sight, and there is room to breathe.

With accommodation for no more than 20 guests at a time, the lodge offers an exceptional sense of privacy, tranquility, and exclusivity. The experience is complemented by the River House, a secluded standalone residence featuring two elegant premium double rooms. Sharing a generous, beautifully appointed bathroom, the rooms provide an ideal arrangement for families or close-knit companions traveling together.
