Chef JD Murray

A native of Abingdon  Virginia, Chef JD Murray brings 20 years of culinary expertise to the South Holston River Lodge.  JD has a farm to table mentality and only seeks out the finest ingredients that our region has to offer.  Guests can expect creative and delicious dishes with great attention to detail that utilizes fresh local ingredients.  His vision derives from the heart of the Appalachian Mountains and he likes to define his cuisine as “Appalachian Personified”. When JD is not creating the next great dish you can find him fly fishing, mountain biking or capturing nature’s beauty with his interest in photography. 

Start your day with a hearty breakfast, relax on the river with a deli style lunch-to-go and after an exciting day on the water you will be treated to an amazing 4-course gourmet meal!

BREAKFAST – 7am Breakfast buffet is served in the BWO Cabin.  Buffet includes, A Daily Special,  Bacon, Sausage, Homemade Sausage Gravy and Biscuits, Scrambled eggs, eggs to order, Hash Browns, Yogurt, Granola, Fruit, Coffee, Tea, Orange Juice


LUNCH –  All guests receive two options for lunch plus a choice of side from our lunch menu each day.  This menu changes daily and selections can be chosen during the pre check in phone call.  During cold months each guest will receive a personal thermos at lunch time containing hot soup to warm the body and soul.  


DINNER – All guests receive two options from our dinner menu each day.  This menu changes daily and selections can be chosen during the pre check in phone call. Appetizers are served at 6pm, followed by a 7pm seating for dinner. Dinner includes Soup or Salad, Entree and Dessert.


South Holston River Lodge menus have been pre determined according to the season.  We would be more than happy to customize your meals if you should have any food allergies or dietary restrictions. This question will be asked during the pre check in phone call 3-5 days prior to your arrival.
