Your Hosts

South Holston River Lodge was founded in 2007 when Attorney Will Andersen purchased the 2 acre property along with his father Bill.  They both realized immediately that this was a natural resource that everyone should enjoy and began taking steps to insure that this was possible. That first step was bringing in part owners and operators Jon Hooper and Tony Marcucci.  It now ranks among the best fly-fishing destinations in the country.

South Holston River Lodge is a year round fly fishing lodge located on the seventh mile of the South Holston, a 14.6 mile tailwater.  The river hosts 7,000 to 10,000 trout per mile and is best known for year round dry fly-fishing opportunities and our spectacular summer Sulphur and winter Blue Wing Olive hatch.  South Holston River Lodge specializes in all inclusive fly-fishing packages, giving you the best experience possible for your next fly-fishing vacation.

Our Philosophy

South Holston River Lodge is located in one of the most beautiful areas of Tennessee just east of the Smoky Mountains and offers some of the best fly-fishing that you will find anywhere in our country.  We at South Holston River Lodge strive to make your next fly fishing vacation a fantastic experience.  This is made possible by combining blue ribbon tailwaters, knowledgeable guides, outstanding meals, luxury riverside accommodations and an SHRL team member that will meet your every need. Meet The Staff

Tony Marcucci

General Manager

Born and raised in Minnesota, Tony has transitioned his life to the southeast and not looked back.  He is just as comfortable running a week long canoe trip through the boundary waters as he is working the books in the office as the General Manager of SHRL.  A graduate of The University of Minnesota, Tony holds an accounting degree and his knowledge is well beyond his years.  After a 5 season career as an Alaskan Fishing Guide he joined longtime friend Jon Hooper at SHRL to complete a perfect fit for a successful business. When it comes to repairing an engine or getting a trout to eat Tony can accomplish the task.

Jon Hooper

Head Fly-fishing Guide, Assistant General Manager

A native of upstate New York, Jon has been fishing and hunting since he was a youngster and takes no greater pleasure than helping others succeed on the water.  Graduate of Sweetwater Guide School in Montana Jon found his true niche in life on the vice creating and tying flies as well as on the oars of his drift boat.  He has guided from Alaska to New York but after 20 years in the Southeast he states with pride, "I was born in the north but my heart is in the south". With a hospitality background he truly knows the meaning of exceptional customer service and makes everyone's stay at the lodge a fantastic and memorable experience.  Whether you are a beginner or seasoned angler he loves to share his knowledge and the beauty of the South Holston and Watauga rivers with you.

When shes not working she is spending time with her husband and three boys.

In the winter months she steps back from the lodge to referee Womens college basketball.

Andrew Bright

Grounds Crew & Fishing Guide

Andrew is an outdoorsman through and through. His entire family is still here in the Eastern Tennessee and Southwest Virginia area where he was born and raised. Being an avid fisherman and hunter Andrew knew that he needed a change from the restaurant industry. In 2016 Andrew started at the lodge maintaining the property and learning the ins and out of what it takes to be a fishing guide. He is a natural when it comes to trout fishing and is now a full-time guide for the lodge. When he is not fishing you will find Andrew calling in turkeys or spending time with his daughter.

Owner,

Will Andersen

Fly Fishing has been a source of enjoyment for me for many years.  In 2007 we purchased the property where we could enjoy time relaxing and hone our skills on some of the best fly-fishing waters in the country. I enjoyed this natural resource so much and knew others would as well, and that's how the South Holston River Lodge was born.  I hope you enjoy our little piece of heaven.
